Mealtime Magic — Winston Smith (1977)
Original Mixed-Media Collage | One of a Kind | Framed | 14” x 17” Including Frame
A little slice of American domestic bliss, Winston Smith style.
Created in 1977, Mealtime Magic brings together a cheerful family dinner, a sea of sheep, smiling faces, and a few unexpected ingredients. What begins as a familiar scene from vintage American advertising gets stranger the longer you look.
Made entirely by hand, using images cut from printed materials and assembled into a new composition, this early collage is a great example of Winston's fascination with the contradictions of American culture. The humor is there, but so is a healthy suspicion of everything being served up.
This is the actual, one-of-a-kind original artwork from 1977, not a print or reproduction. Presented in a wooden frame with matting, as pictured.
